The credit union was founded in 1934 to serve employees and families of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Originally, it only offered basic saving and borrowing services. However, throughout the years, the credit union has expanded its services and its field of membership to include thousands of people in the East Tennessee area.
The credit union essentially functions like a bank, except that it is member-owned and operated. Our credit union has numerous safeguards over its financial operation. The most important ones are proper state supervision, a mandatory reserve requirement, member participation and a strong bonding program.
You can apply for membership in the credit union if you live, work, worship or attend school in Johnson City and any of the following counties in Tennessee: Blount, Hamblen, Loudon, Jefferson, Knox, Roane, Sevier and Sullivan.
Family members who are related by blood or marriage to any member of the Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union are also qualified to join.
